First Communion Preparation – How It Works

Two consecutive years of Catholic education in 1st grade and 2nd grade are required prior to receiving Reconciliation (Confession) and Communion.

Those who do not attend Catholic school or have not completed a Catholic homeschool curriculum should enroll in our program in 1st grade in order to fulfill the above requirement to receive the sacraments in their 2nd grade year.

Those who do attend a Catholic school or Catholic homeschoolers should enroll in our 1st communion program before the beginning of their 2nd grade year.

Participation in the home study option offered by our Parish also fulfills these requirements for sacramental preparation.

Parents of all students preparing for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

  • Attend Mass weekly as a family
  • Share your faith and prayer life with your child
  • Help your child memorize the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and the Act of Contrition:

My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.
Amen.
